Central Arkansas COVID-19/Coronavirus Closings and Postponements

With all the concern over the coronavirus and the fight to prevent further spread, many area events are being cancelled or postponed. In a briefing from Gov. Asa Hutchinson, schools in Arkansas will be closed from Tuesday, March 17th until Monday, March 30th (or a potentially later date) in order to help combat the virus. Below is a list of area closings, cancellations and postponements. If you have something to add to the list, email djtaylor@iheartmedia.com with details.

SCHOOLS

U of A at Fayetteville In-person classes are canceled until the end of the semester - Campus will not be closed and that university operations will continue

U of A at Little Rock Classes to move online until further notice - Activities canceled until April 30, for now

Pulaski Technical College In-person classes and on-site student activities canceled - Campuses will be closed until at least Monday, March 30

University of Central Arkansas In-person classes canceled starting March 13 - Switching to online classes beginning March 17 until end of the semester

Henderson State University Shift to remote instruction beginning Friday, March 13th. Face to face classes will not resume before April 13th.

U of A Clinton School of Public Service All in-person classes will be moved online for the remainder of the spring semester - Public events scheduled for the remainder of the spring semester, have been cancelled or postponed

Shorter College Full-time staff and faculty will report to work as normal, classes will go online starting Friday, March 13 until March 30.

Hendrix College In-person classes will be canceled as of 5 p.m. Friday, March 13 for the remainder of the semester - College-owned housing closes at 5 p.m. on March 16 and in-person classes are canceled from March 16 through March 20. Remote courses will begin after spring break, on March 30.

Philander Smith College Moving from in-person class instruction to a hybrid remote approach effective Monday, March 23rd until further notice. - Students will be on Spring Break as scheduled March 16th – March 20th.

The following week (beginning March 23), the Spring Semester will resume with classes offered remotely – a hybrid model that will employ a mix of online and other remote capabilities.

U of A-Medical Sciences Canceling classes and programs across all colleges and sending students home from all sites. (AC and UAMS)

U of A at Pine Bluff college will move to online courses until Monday, March 30 but administrative offices are open - All scheduled campus activities, including student programs, and athletic events are canceled until Monday, March 30. All university-related travel by employees or students is also suspended.

U of A at Monticello campuses in Crossett and McGehee has moved all of their classes to a "virtual setting beginning March 12 until at least Monday, March 30.

Arkansas Tech University & Ozark Campus Classes Online March 18 Until Further Notice - No Classes March 16-17

Webster University - LRAFB Students will use on-line instruction March 16th - April 6th

ALL ARKANSAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS CLOSED TIL MARCH 30th

LITTLE ROCK AREA LOCATIONS

Arkansas Arts Center - Closed to the public with a reopening date to be determined

Arkansas State Capitol - Closed to the public until at least March 30th

Central Arkansas Libraries - CALS locations will be closed from March 14th until March 23rd or later.\

City buildings Will remain open for public business. However, to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus, visitors to city facilities will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to assess risk.

Clinton Presidential Center - Closed until March 30th

Heifer Village & Urban Farm - Closed until March 30th

Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center Will also close. As such, all valid memberships will be extended for one month.

Little Rock Zoo Indoor programming and events have been cancelled through March 30.

Little Rock City events with expected attendance of 200 people or more are being rescheduled.

Little Rock community centers Will close and remain closed through March 30. Senior citizen programming held at the centers will be suspended until further notice

MacArthur Museum Of Arkansas Military History - Closed until March 30th

Museum Of Discovery - Closed to the public until March 30th or later

Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort will close their casino from March 16th until March 30th. Racing will still take place, but spectators will not be allowed during the same timeframe.

Witt Stephen, Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center - Closed to the public until at least March 30th.

The Wonder Place - Closed to the public until March 30th

Catholics Church’s Public Masses Will be suspended starting the weekend of March 21-22, except for small groups at the discretion of the priest. Whenever possible, churches will be kept open during daylight hours for private prayer and Eucharistic Adoration as an alternative to Sunday Mass - The non-essential gatherings at Parishes for the rest of March and April are canceled or postponed, pending further notice. This includes but is not limited to previously-scheduled Confirmation ceremonies
