Reba McEntire urged her social media followers, “don’t believe everything you see on the internet.”

The beloved country artist posted a screenshot of a post that claimed McEntire (whose name appears misspelled) was “disappointed” to look up at the big screen during her performance of the National Anthem, apparently referring to her rendition at Super Bowl LVIII, and “see Taylor Swift” — who made it to the Super Bowl after one of her international “Eras Tour” stops, cheering for boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce — “laughing and drinking and making a mockery of the event.” The post claims McEntire said, “I let her have it afterward. She’s an entitled little brat.”

McEntire posted the screenshot of a page titled America Loves Liberty on Instagram. She clarified in her caption: “Please don’t believe everything you see on the Internet. I did not say this. Taylor is a wonderful artist, strong role model and has done so much good for so many people and the music industry.”

Melissa Peterman, McEntire’s Reba costar, was among thousands of commenters voicing their support for the “I’m A Survivor” artist: “They spelled your name McIntire. So made up story AND a lazy proofreader! 😂”

McEntire was revealed as the Super Bowl National Anthem singer weeks before the game. She said at that time on CBS Mornings that “[actor] Rex Linn, my boyfriend, who is a huge football fan, he said, ‘yes! She’ll do it! Absolutely!’” McEntire delivered a stunning National Anthem performance decades after singing the Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. This year marks 50 years since McEntire was discovered singing the National Anthem, and she said she was “honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time.”
